Dan Skinner

Senior Research Associate (BREATHE)

Jul 2025 – present

I’m climate scientist working with the University of Bristol’s HadCM3B‑ESM model to study detection and attribution, with particular focus on human health impacts. I run simulations of the modern era (1850-present), isolating climate forcings to assess their individual impacts on the climate system. These detection and attribution simulations will be submitted to the 2nd phase of the Detection and Attribution Model Intercomparison Project (DAMIP2) - a part of CMIP7.

My current work forms part of the wider BREATHE project, a large consortium studying the attribution of climate-related health outcomes to human forcing. Within BREATHE, we will use the DAMIP2 simulations to compare the impact of various health outcomes in worlds with and without human influence.

Prior to joining the Climate and Health group at Bristol I worked in the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. There I used the IGCM4 climate model to study the variability of large scale rainfall patterns and their teleconnections over long timescales.

Due to my work with the HadCM3B‑ESM model, I work closely with the UK Met Office, co-leading the Climate Modelling theme of the Bristol Met Office Academic Parntership (MOAP) alongside Professor Chris Jones.
