Ruby Lieber
Senior Research Associate (BREATHE)
Apr 2025 – present
I am a postdoctoral research associate with expertise in climate variability, climate change and extreme weather. I am interested in exploring the impacts of extreme weather and climate on people and society both historically and in the future using global climate model simulations. My current work focuses on understanding the health impacts of climate change and climate extremes.
Before joining the University of Bristol in 2025, I completed my PhD at the University of Melbourne on the El Niño-Southern Oscillation and how El Niño and La Niña events impact extreme weather and climate.

- BREATHE Funded project
Bridging Research on Environmental Attribution and Health Equity - DELTA Funded project
Downscaled Ensemble for Local-scale Trend Attribution. An open data platform that provides bias-corrected, downscaled temperature and precipitation timeseries for every country, under both observed and counterfactual (no human influence) climates, so that health researchers can carry out climate change attribution studies without having to process climate model data themselves.

- Five ways to prepare for the impending El Niño 8 Oct 2026
Research led by Dr Ruby Lieber and Prof Dann Mitchell, published in The Lancet, identifies five key ways countries can prepare for the impending El Niño and reduce its toll on human health.
